And how can others get it?

I'm not very knowledgeable in this area. I still use eloquence read and actually really like him.

How about you all? Who's your fave?

Post 2 by Jesse (Hmm!) on Monday, 25-Feb-2008 10:32:19

Alex with Voiceover. There's only one way to get it though. Lol!

Post 3 by rat (star trek rules!) on Monday, 25-Feb-2008 13:31:19

it's kind of hard for me to choose, there are some pretty good sounding sapi 5 voices out there, but they slow down your system if you have a slow one.

Post 4 by chikorita (move over school!) on Monday, 25-Feb-2008 20:41:27

hmm. I like dectalk 4.3, eloquence and realspeak, but don't have a fave. ESpeak's ok if you use the variant and inflection options in NVDA. Personally I think anna was prematurely released.

I like whatever synthesizer they used for the Kurzweil Reading Edge machine.

Post 6 by Chris N (I just keep on posting!) on Tuesday, 26-Feb-2008 11:18:44

I like the Flextalk software synthesizer. I don't think it's available any more though. If it is, I'd love to hear about it so I can use it as a SAPI voice.

Post 7 by audioadict (I'm going for the prolific poster awards!) on Wednesday, 27-Feb-2008 0:35:53

I just love eloquence! It's so suthing to listen to. I love for the read voice to read outloud one of my text books. It doesn't put me to sleep like some audio books can.

if you want flextalk. go to my ftp. ftp://shaunnet.podzone.org then go to sapi 5 voices, sapi 5 voices, then get the flextalk.rar file. Oh, and my favorite synth has to be the infovox 230 software synthesizer with the american english language mail. its just horrid at pronouncing some words, but its cool to use. lol. for example, if pronounces giggle to the max as jiggle to the max, geeks are us as jeeks are us, and one of hte funniest ones, for computer geeks, freaks, and eggheads as for computa jeeks, freaks, and edjeeds. lol. the british english is much better for reading though. lol.

well this one is a hard one. i like dectalk and others but my favorite is any one that comes with my mac and voice over.

Post 10 by allisonfm (Veteran Zoner) on Wednesday, 05-Mar-2008 21:06:09

I'm all about scansoft Karin at the moment, but you can't beat eloquence for responsiveness.

Post 11 by Gilman Gal (A billy Gilman fan forever and always!!) on Tuesday, 11-Mar-2008 22:23:20

I like dec talk myself, it sounds clearer, at least to me. wonder how the ATNT voices would sound reading this site?

Post 12 by blake (Zone BBS Addict) on Thursday, 13-Mar-2008 20:17:10

My favorite synthesizer is ScanSoft Karen. I find the Australian accent fascinating.

Post 13 by allisonfm (Veteran Zoner) on Friday, 14-Mar-2008 0:01:03

As do I. I think that her voice is the most human sounding out of all of the scansoft voices. It adheres to standards of basic human inflection pretty well.

Post 14 by WillieTheWoof (I'll have the last word, thank you!) on Friday, 14-Mar-2008 13:17:11

Alex is my hero and comes with Leopard on the mac. He reads quite well at fast speeds and is easy to understand. He doesn't eat too much either.

Post 15 by audioadict (I'm going for the prolific poster awards!) on Monday, 16-Jun-2008 1:07:13

I am quite fond of the voice over voices, preferably alix. I don't have a mac, but I know what the voices sound like. I also like the scansoft voices.

I like acapela ryan, even though it eats a lot of ram. but if you need to convert an audiobook to mp3, its a good choice, for me at least.

I like dan, but can't figure how to get it

Post 18 by blindndangerous (the blind and dangerous one) on Tuesday, 17-Jun-2008 18:42:18

I love voice over's alex. GOtta get a mac to grab him though.

Post 19 by jeffreyshockley (the Zone BBS remains forever my home page) on Sunday, 29-Jun-2008 17:52:02

The Reading Machines used DECTalk.

Post 20 by audioadict (I'm going for the prolific poster awards!) on Sunday, 07-Sep-2008 23:45:05

I've heard demos of a synth called cepstral, and it seems quite good. Too expensive though.
I also like some of the A T and T voices.

Eloquence's Reed (He reads like a pro)
Scansoft Daniel (Now THAT'S my baby daddy. JK)
Acapella Allen (He's just plain hilarious)
Acapella Heather and I think the other one's name is Kell? Oh well, either way I like the one that sounds kinda like Heather
I like Dectalk's singing
and I love Microsoft Mary when she sings, too.

Post 22 by Reyami (I've broken five thousand! any more awards going?) on Wednesday, 10-Sep-2008 6:15:43

I use eloquence Reed.

Post 23 by Harmony (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Friday, 12-Sep-2008 11:34:32

I use elequence most of the time and like messing around with it to make it do different things. Right now, i'm using the web and whatever it's called scheme that's already built in, but I have made a couple of my own before. I also like most of the sapi 5 voices. I like the scan soft voices as well.

Post 24 by nikos (English words from a Greek thinking brain) on Saturday, 13-Sep-2008 6:55:14

I like eloquence but so far the only synthesiser which can read both Greek and English without having to change voices is orpheus from dolphin. Also the espeak greek voice can read english as well but it needs some improovement for Greek. But the developer did a very good job with the Greek voice considering that he never heard the language and he only read information in wikipedia about Greek.
Also espeak is very small and light and very responsive.

Post 25 by Harmony (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Saturday, 13-Sep-2008 11:44:06

I couldn't find a way of making jaws speak greek either.

Post 26 by battle star queen (I just keep on posting!) on Sunday, 14-Sep-2008 0:51:57

I like scan soft karen, scan soft Samantha, and scan soft Tom.

Post 27 by nikos (English words from a Greek thinking brain) on Sunday, 14-Sep-2008 6:44:24

Jaws will speak Greek in the following ways.
1. By downloading jaws 10 beta and also downloading the realspeak direct Greek voice from the website.
This voice is good if you are going to work in an only Greek invironment without English involved. If you will work with both Greek and English this voice is not very good.
2. Install the espeak for sapi5 and use Greek that way. This way is good because you can work with both greek and English but the Greek support still needs improovement.
3. With some dolphin products they include sapi4 and sapi5 versions of their voices. I tried to get sapi4 to work with jaws but i get a message that this program has encountered a problem and needs to close.

Post 28 by Harmony (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Tuesday, 16-Sep-2008 16:58:06

For some reason, i couldn't find where to download the beta of jaws 10. I like Scansoft Karen, Lee and Daniel. Realspeak Jane isn't as good, but it's there. I'm not too keen on Scansoft Jill and Samantha though.

Post 29 by SunshineAndRain (I'm happily married, a mom of two and a fulltime college student.) on Wednesday, 17-Sep-2008 1:54:51

Yeah Samantha sounds kinda fake. Jill's okay though.

Post 30 by Harmony (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Thursday, 02-Oct-2008 4:38:48

There's a voice called Dog you can get and if you try and read text with it, it translates as a series of Barks!!
